Join us on our mission to provide a transformation education for the students of Heywood and Middleton, which opened its doors in September 2021. As an educator in our Science Department, you will have the unique opportunity to shape and develop a novel curriculum that captures the hearts and minds of our students, provoke critical thinking, and improve scientific and intellectual curiosity. Our culturally relevant curriculum is currently being designed to develop social attitudes and behaviour, celebrate British values, and encourage students to have an inclusive approach to their local and global communities. Our KS3 Science curriculum is designed to offer a comprehensive study of all three disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), with increasing complexity and breadth as students’ progress throughout each year. To ensure consistency across all classes, our curriculum is centrally planned, whilst still allowing the Teacher the freedom to inject their own expertise and creativity into the delivery of those lessons. Students sit 3 assessments a year during KS3 and frequently complete low-stakes activities that support Teacher judgement of student progress.

We are seeking to recruit a Teacher of Spanish or French in a new school which opened its doors in September 2021, and which serves the local community in Middleton and Heywood. This role would suit a proactive and resilient person with a passion for teaching the MFL curriculum.
Edgar Wood Academy’s MFL Department is made up of a team of two highly experienced subject specialists who are committed to providing an outstanding languages curriculum. We are reflective practitioners who collaboratively plan the curriculum with the relevant pedagogy in mind.
We are passionate about ensuring progress for all pupils by delivering an ambitious curriculum that develops pupils’ oracy skills and helps them to become articulate speakers who can use the language confidently, valuing communication over perfection. We strive to ensure pupils understand the wealth of opportunities that learning a language can bring to their lives. Our curriculum has been carefully sequenced so that vocabulary is systematically taught and consistently revisited to empower pupils to use the language in a wide range of contexts. Classes are mixed ability in both Year 7 and Year 8. In Year 7, pupils learn about personality, school and free time and build upon their knowledge in Year 8 through the topics of local area, holidays, and festivals.
