🌟 Inspirational Figure of the Week 🌟 In assemblies this week, pupils will be introduced to our inspirational figure, Marcus Rashford, and consider what we can learn from his empathy, resilience and determination to help others. Pupils will learn how the Greater Manchester footballer used his platform to speak up for children and families experiencing food poverty, helping to bring national attention to free school meals and holiday hunger. They will also reflect on how he has challenged racial discrimination and promoted equality and opportunity for all. Marcus reminds us that making a difference is not only about donating money—we can all use our voice, time and talents to support others and strengthen our communities. #InspirationalFigure #MarcusRashford #PersonalDevelopment #BritishValues #Empathy #Respect

⭐ PD Stars of the Week For delivering a fantastic Year 11 assembly focused on preparing for college and the transition to post-16 study. Farrah, Olivia and Maya are former Edgar Wood pupils who are now studying at Rochdale Sixth Form College, and it was brilliant to welcome them back to share their experiences of making the move to sixth form. The key message to Year 11 was to start revising now, building strong habits so that when GCSEs arrive, pupils feel prepared, focused and organised for their next steps. #NextSteps #Post16 #RochdaleSixthFormCollege #RSFC #GCSEs #Revision #CollegeReady

Over the last four days, our Year 11 Geography students have visited Daisy Nook Country Park to carry out a river study on the River Medlock. At different sites along the river, students measured its width, depth and velocity. It was brilliant to see how independently they worked and how confidently they put their geography skills into practice. We’re especially proud of the respect they showed to members of the public, the café staff and the Friends of Daisy Nook throughout the visits. A huge thank you to the Friends of Daisy Nook, whose volunteer work helps keep the park safe, accessible and looking lovely for our students and everyone who visits. Thank you, too, to the wonderful café staff for looking after us with hot food, sandwiches and toasties. The staff were particularly grateful for the morning brews! We have had a great four days of fieldwork. Well done, Year 11!

🕊️ Inter-faith Reflection This week, pupils will learn about the International Day of Peace, which encourages people of all religions, beliefs and backgrounds to work together to create a more peaceful world. They will explore how Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Sikhism each promote values such as peace, compassion, equality and harmony. Pupils will also reflect on how peace can begin in our everyday lives—through the language we use, how we respond to disagreements and how we treat people who are different from us. This reflection supports our Personal Development provision by promoting empathy, respect, mutual understanding and positive relationships within our school and wider community. #InterfaithReflection #InternationalDayOfPeace #PersonalDevelopment #Respect #Empathy #BritishValues
