Uniform

Our uniform helps every student feel part of the Edgar Wood Academy community. Below are answers to the questions we're asked most about what to buy, where to buy it, and our expectations around appearance. See the full Uniform page for the complete list.

What is the Edgar Wood Academy uniform?

The uniform is an EWA-branded black blazer, white shirt (tucked in), EWA-branded tie worn up to the neck, black tailored or boot-cut trousers with plain black socks, and formal black flat shoes with no deep treads or trainers. A black V-neck jumper is optional.

Where can I buy the school uniform?

Uniform is available from Broadbents of Middleton, 65 Long St, Middleton, Manchester M24 6UN (0161 643 5193). The school also generally has pre-loved uniform available - contact reception if you could use any, or to donate.

Is there a school policy on hairstyles, jewellery or make-up?

Yes. Hairstyles must be smart, a natural colour, and not obscure the face; close-shaved heads and cut-in patterns aren't permitted. Students may wear a wristwatch and a single plain stud earring in each lower lobe (max value £20). Make-up isn't permitted in Years 7–9, and must be subtle in Years 10–11; false tan, false eyelashes, and nail products aren't permitted at any age.

What PE kit does my child need?

An EWA-branded short-sleeve PE top, black PE shorts, tracksuit bottoms or thick black sports leggings, trainers (no plimsolls), and football boots with shin pads and a gumshield for relevant sports.
