School Day, Attendance & Term Dates

From what time the day starts to how we support families with attendance, here's what parents most want to know about daily life at Edgar Wood Academy.

What time does the school day start and finish?

The Academy opens from 7:30am for any child who wishes ot take advantage of our free breakfast club. Students need to be present for line up for 8:40am sharp. Lessons finish at 3:00pm, and there is a comprehensive range of optional enrichment activities that take place after school

How long are lessons and how many hours a week is my child in school?

Lessons are one hour long, with 25 hours a week allocated to the subject curriculum plus a daily 30-minute tutorial/assembly. Total time in school across the week is 31.5 hours.

Why does attendance matter so much, and what support is available if my child is struggling to attend?

Edgar Wood Academy is recognised as an Inclusive Attendance Academy and uses a three-tier Multi-Tiered System of Support: a universal approach for all pupils, individualised strategies and early help for emerging attendance challenges, and specialist, higher-needs support (including external agency involvement) for more complex cases - in line with DfE guidance.
