Careers & Post-16
We start preparing students for life after Edgar Wood Academy from Year 7. Here are the questions parents ask most about our careers programme and post-16 options - see our full Careers and Next Steps page for more.
What careers support does Edgar Wood Academy offer?
A spiral careers curriculum embedded in PSHCE from Year 7 to Year 11, including personal guidance interviews, CV/application/interview workshops, a five-day work experience placement in Key Stage 4, and multiple encounters with employers, apprenticeship providers, colleges and universities. Every student has full access to Unifrog for exploring options, and parents/carers can request their own Unifrog access via the Careers team.
Who do I contact about careers advice for my child?
Mrs Carroll, the Careers Lead, can be reached at g.carroll@edgarwood.org or 0161 676 9620 with further support from the Altus Trust and Positive Steps
What are the post-16 options after Edgar Wood Academy?
Students can progress to sixth form college (including Rochdale Sixth Form College, part of the same Altus Education Partnership trust), vocational college for BTECs and T levels, or an apprenticeship. The Careers page lists specific local providers for each route.
